Contrary to a rumour I have just heard - Jolly Good Beer has not "gone bust". We are mothballed and all staff are on furlough so they can stay home & stay safe. Shut-down is by far the best option currently available in terms of any logical risk assessment.
The only member of staff active is me, Yvan (I am a sole trader so furlough isn't an option - neither is winding up, phoenixing, etc.) I am at my warehouse desk right now, primarily working on admin and accounting related to the present situation - and preparing for the future.
Key to this is making sure my staff are safe & looked after, and a firm foundation is in place to resume trade when safe & viable. We do not expect to resume normal trade until August or beyond, and have a strategy in place to sustain this mothballed state until at least winter.
This has been achieved through careful planning, use of the furlough scheme, open communications with suppliers/creditors, and the receipt of the Β£10k grant and a Β£50k small business loan to bolster our pre-COVID19 sound financial state.
We have a variety of plans and some projects in progress on-paper that will come to fruition by the time business resumes, and my own schedule may even open up enough for some light-touch form of trade ahead resuming something approaching normal business.
It has of course been a mentally tough and exhausting period so far - and many things about the future are uncertain. What is most certain are the risks right at this moment - and what is most important to me is not increasing risks to my people or society as a whole.
We are perhaps lucky to be in a position where I can map out a medium- to long-term future that doesn't compel me to take risks in the short-term. I understand that isn't the case for everyone, and wish everyone luck on whatever paths they choose to tread.
I continue to publish customer emails at least weekly, currently a series of "furlough diaries" contributed by my staff: https://twitter.com/JollyGoodBeer/status/1259843083488944130

Comms are open via email: [email protected]

And I dip into this Twitter account a couple of days a week at the moment.
So, to those hearing Jolly Good Beer has "gone bust":

π“π‘πž 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐑 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐒𝐨𝐧.

However, we are on pause for now - and will remain so until my continual risk & viability assessments suggest otherwise.

Be well & safe,
Yvan
