The Leaving Certificate examination is a broken system & is a myth of meritocracy. HEA found students from the most affluent areas accounted for 32% of those scoring 555-600 points vs only 3% from the most disadvantaged areas scoring within the same points bracket in 2017/18
While we're on graphs, this one is for all Ireland & shows the relationship between Leaving Cert points and area profile. Each point represents an Electoral Division with size depending on number of students (Source HEA)
This one is just for Dublin for a more zoomed in look & clearly illustrates the difference in what's achievable between those from affluent backgrounds (dark blue/ blue) and those from disadvantage backgrounds (dark yellow/orange) when it comes to the LC exams (Source HEA)
