A few people have asked us what our specific recommendations are. You can see the full list by clicking on the link below:

But we know you are busy, so here is a thread of the whole lot. (Some shortened slightly to fit)
Rec 1: Once it is safe to do so, the loosening of lockdown should be done in a way that allows children to play with peers ASAP. For example, gatherings of children must be allowed, even if these are very small, must be held outdoors, or are restricted in frequency.
Rec 2: That public health messages to families and education staff should provide clear information on the social and emotional benefits of play, including outdoor play, and clear guidance on the objective risks to children.... (cont'd)
Rec 2 cont'd: Many parents and teachers will be anxious about putting children at risk, and about
educational progress, so it is vital these concerns are addressed in public health communications.
Rec 3: That decision-makers take a risk-benefit approach when making decisions about interaction & play. The Health and Safety Exec advises a risk-benefit approach - aim not to eliminate risk but maximise benefit whilst ensuring that
children are not exposed to unnecessary risk.
Rec 4: All given time at school to play with peers. Traditional break may not be poss, but we would like to see a creative approach, eg play in pairs/small groups on a rota system. Playtime should be available to all who want it, irrespective of behaviour or attainment, whilst...
Rec 4 cont: recognising some prefer the structure of the classroom or feel anxious about unstructured play. ASAP children should play with peers without social distancing even if in pairs/small groups or ‘social bubbles’. ‘Free play’ is particularly good for emotional wellbeing.
Rec 5: Schools should be resourced to support emotional wellbeing, esp while social distancing is in place. After weeks alone being allowed in school but 2m from friends could be v upsetting. Vital this is recognised and schools given time & resource to support the transition.
Rec 6: In short-term, schools should focus on play & social/emotional wellbeing. There should be less focus on academics. Children cannot learn when they are struggling emotionally. Teachers should be given clear guidance to focus on wellbeing in coming weeks and months.
Rec 7: Play & learning outdoors should be recommended where poss. The mental & physical benefits of outdoor play and effectiveness of outdoor learning have been well-documented. These should be used wherever possible, given the likely reduction in risk of infection outdoors.
Rec 8: Where nec'y, plans for returning to school should be made with families. There will be variation in lockdown experiences & anxiety about return to school. Support will be required for many, such as those experiencing grief, with SEN, & with existing mental health problems.
