There are a range of responses emerging on twitter & in the news regarding #photographs coming out of France and other European countries showing depictions of what #socialdistancing might look like in #earlyyears & #primaryschool 1/n
We will start to collate these in this thread. Amongst other things the responses tell us a lot about our #constructionsofchildhood and #thepoliticsofphotography . We can only see the children and educators, we can not hear them, their conversations and interactions 2/n
One tweet is from a Lille based journalist who comments that if these photos make us sad imagine how they make the students feel (see thread) https://twitter.com/lioneltop/status/1260125365990756352?s=21 what other responses might be possible? In what other ways might these photos be interrogated? https://twitter.com/lioneltop/status/1260125365990756352
From a rights-based perspective, and in line w Article 12 on #childparticipation we might ask, as Brenda Herbert a doctoral student at @SociologyGold does, whether the children themselves have been asked about their rtn to school? https://twitter.com/cloudchild9/status/1260516838280171521?s=21 https://twitter.com/cloudchild9/status/1260516838280171521
From a crit social Θ persp, as suggested by Cara Blaisdell academic in #earlyyears, we might want to suspend dominant reps of children as vulnerable alone & w/out agency & imagine how they might make sense & make their way & through new constraints https://twitter.com/cbblaisdell/status/1260513003579019264?s=21 https://twitter.com/cbblaisdell/status/1260513003579019264
A response from Jane Callaghan Prof of Social Work brings to mind and prompts us to ask how much of the social is physical alone and to wonder how children and teachers will find ways to be social & sociable at a physical distance? https://twitter.com/janeemcallaghan/status/1260476755611131904?s=21 https://twitter.com/janeemcallaghan/status/1260476755611131904
So yes, many, like historian Sharon Brookshaw are wondering how #play and social (or we might prefer to say physical) distancing might work in early years and primary school settings https://twitter.com/sharonbrookshaw/status/1260491385062535172?s=21 https://twitter.com/sharonbrookshaw/status/1260491385062535172
TBC over coming days & months! Pls @ us w responses &/or images of #children #socialdistancing #schools & also, as they emerge, stories about these new measures as (your) children encounter them and try to make sense of them (if u were going to tweet anyway!). #COVIDー19 #schools
Another international example is shared by Abi Hackett at MMU, #socialbubbles between children and teachers might be another way to go to address #PhysicalDistancing in #earlyyears & #primaryschools https://twitter.com/abihackett/status/1260516879313108992?s=21 https://twitter.com/abihackett/status/1260516879313108992
