On September 19, 1984 a 17 year old girl named Sandy Rea vanishes from a local bowling alley in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Over 30 years later and she still hasn’t been found.

Sandy Rea was a 17 year old high schooler. On September 19, 1984 she walked a convenience store to grab a pack of cigarettes before headed to the windsor bowling alley (now Shawnee bowl) where her cousin, Jerry Doyle worked.
She stopped in and had a brief conversation with him and made a phone call somewhere between 4:00PM-6:00PM. It’s unknown who exactly she called but it’s believed she was calling somebody to get a ride to a party.
Jerry also said Sandy said “Danny McLeod (Her ex boyfriend.) is going to pick me up whether he knows it or not.” Sandy had actually asked Jerry for a ride but he declined because he was working.
He left Sandy while she spoke on the phone to go clean a lane and when he looked back, she was walking out of the building. that was the last time she was seen. Nobody saw her leave with anyone. Nobody saw her get in a car. Nothing. 30 years later and still nothing.
There’s no physical evidence of what happened to her. It’s like the vanished into thin air. She was seen walking out the bowling alley front doors, and then never again. But there are MANY theories.
Danny McLeod: The Abusive Ex
Jerry later speculated that she did leave with her ex boyfriend, Danny. Sandy left home at 16 and moved in with Danny, but the two had actually broken up 2 months prior to her disappearance and she had moved in with a friend.

Apparently Danny was physically abusive which is what led up to the break up. Sandy’s mother, Carol Wells, recalled seeing Sandy with bruises around her neck and claimed that Sandy said she wouldn’t leave him because “that’s where she got her drugs.”
Although Sandy and Danny weren’t technically together at the time, they still kept in touch and hung out a lot. Sandy’s mother said two days before Sandy’s disappearance she had to actually fight Danny off of her, resulting in Sandy breaking one of his knee caps.
A lot of people are suspicious that he had something to do with her disappearance even though he did end up passing a polygraph in 1992. But people aren’t just suspicious of Danny... They’re suspicious of his father too.
Danny’s father, Jim McLeod actually borrowed Carol Wells’ car the night Sandy disappeared around 10:30PM. He claimed he borrowed it because his truck wasn’t running, but the next day when he returned Carol’s car the trunk was full of mud.
This led Carol to wonder if the mud was evidence that Sandy had been murdered and buried. Jim McLeod owned a pawnshop, and just days later he filled the basement in with sand. He claims he filled it due to the floor caving in and some broken pipes.
He told investigators that the night he borrowed Carol’s car, he had went to visit a customer named Joquita Marcus before returning the car around 2AM. He also claims Carol invited him to breakfast.
But later Carol told investigators that she did NOT invite him to breakfast and that he actually asked her to provide an alibi for him by saying he was at her house.
In 2013, a ground penetrating radar was used in the pawn shop but showed no evidence that a body was present...
The Sex Parties:
Sandy was unfortunately believed to be involved in suit parties aka sex parties organized by local well known, high profile, businessmen, attorneys, etc. who preyed on young, vulnerable teenage girls.

Sandy was sadly a victim of the 1980s drug culture and was a perfect target for these men to take advantage of.
They would host parties in hotels & big houses. They essentially gave these teens drugs and alcohol in exchange for sex. Some of the teens who attended these parties later came forward and said girls were just simply drugged and raped once they were too impaired to stop it.
Some think she overdosed at one of these suit parties and to protect the reputation of these men, they used their power to cover it up. These parties were obviously very illegal and these men were high profile. law enforcement. attorneys. doctors.
Men who couldn’t afford their secret to get out. Especially in the bible belt. People who may have done anything to keep that pristine reputation.
A year before Sandy went missing, her friend, 14 year old, Cynthia Terry, died after a party at a local hotel. Her autopsy revealed she was pregnant and 4 nerve suppressing drugs were found in her system. Her drug certificate reads “overdose homicide.”
There’s a theory that Sandy herself was pregnant at the time of her disappearance. If Sandy had fallen pregnant with one of these men’s baby it could have given them a reason to murder her. If she kept the baby and word got out, everyone’s secret could be exposed.
So with Cynthia’s case, and the several rumors that Sandy was pregnant as well, it leaves me to wonder if these men got these girls pregnant and just disposed of them to keep their secret sealed. All with the power and pull to cover it up.
However, Carol Wells actually has a different theory. Carol now believes her husband, Sandy’s stepfather, Jim Wells, had motive to kill Sandy.
Jim Wells: The Stepfather.
Apparently Jim regularly made sexually inappropriate comments to Sandy and she had actually caught him peeping in on her while showering. He also allegedly sexually assaulted her but without Sandy, there’s been no real proof.

Somebody had apparently told Carol later that Sandy was pregnant and planning on telling on Jim. Carol was actually told several times by different people that Sandy was pregnant. Whether it’s true or not, Jim would’ve went to prison and that’s a motive to kill.
Carol believes if Jim did it, he didn’t act alone. She believes he would’ve worked with his friend Ernie Honeycutt. Not much has been added to support this theory, however...
Carol actually hired a psychic, who managed to tell her some eery and accurate details about Ernie. The psychic said she saw an old man who drove a very old van. Which Ernie did.
Carol believes if Ernie did help he buried her in an old family cemetery, in the very plot Ernie Honeycutt is buried today. But the cemetery location is unknown to Carol.
What’s weird though is the psychic also told Carol that Sandy’s throat was slashed and she was placed in a water well within 6 miles of shawnee BY a cemetery... but of course, she still hasn’t been found...
Crooked Law Enforcement.
There have been rumors for decades that our law enforcement knows what happened and has been keeping it a secret for 30 years.

Supposedly they have covered up key details regarding this case, and even went as far as to ignore any possible leads that involved high profiled businessmen.
Despite only being about 30 miles from OKC, they failed to highlight the case on any Oklahoma City news broadcasts which could’ve gotten the exposure we would’ve needed to find Sandy.
Carol has accused the head of the Criminal Investigations Division at the time of Sandy’s disappearance, Charlie Phillips, of working to cover up the case as well.
They listed Sandy as a runaway despite leaving behind her makeup, clothes, and her paycheck. She went missing in September and wasn’t filed as a missing person until December.
When Jim returned Carol’s car with mud in the trunk, Carol asked Charlie Phillips to search it. He wouldn’t. Charlie Phillips and Jim McLeod were friends.
Carol says she pleaded with Charlie to tell her ANYTHING and that he became very emotional and told her “There’s things about this case I will never be able to tell you. All I can tell you is your daughter will never be found.”
Charlie Phillips, now retired, has continuously refused to speak on the case.
After 30+ years and no real physical evidence, this case will probably only be solved if somebody speaks up. This is my hometown. This girl was 17. I grew up running around that bowling alley. This case hits me hard.
I wrote to @CrimeJunkiePod last night telling them this story in hopes they’ll be interested enough to cover it on their show. I’d really appreciate it if y’all would tag them so hopefully they’ll see it.
Also for those asking, I know this case like the back of my hand. I’ve researched it as much as possible but unfortunately there isn’t a lot out there at this point. And if it IS a coverup, that’s no surprise. A few ppl have message me and given me some personal family stories-
which is really neat so if you know ANYTHING please let me know!!
