Can we talk about how best to make #pixelart palettes?

I'm trying to expand my color range, so I smoothed out the previous palette I was using. But when I convert the sprite to palette I end up getting a big jumble of colors that's really hard for me to sort.

The last time I did this I entered each color by hand (which took forever!). I like how organized the grid is, but I really wish I was able to see my ramps as they are like on the image to the right?
