Inspired by @tha_rami & @theRazbuten, I decided to introduce my mom to the language I speak fluently: video games

I had the idea to introduce modern games to her, but never got to do it. So I spontaneously invited her to play today, might write an article about it

The summary:
As a side note, my mom is a casual gamer.
She played a lot of Candy Crush, and when I was a kid we played a lot of games together, from Tom & Jerry on SNES, Top Gear, to THPS.

She hasn't been updated with the current video games that much, but still interested in the medium.
First game I introduced to her was Journey.

I tried to not guide her at all. She did pretty well. It took her a while to learn how the camera and jumping work, but up until the end of our session, she still can't differentiate which objects to interact with and with which button
Journey did a pretty good job in guiding the players to the journey across the desert, even with almost zero understanding of the video games language she can find her way

One interesting note, at one point she decided to not follow the "main quest" and went to a secret...
When I asked her why she took that side road, her only answer was

"That building looks pretty"
The second game I introduced to her is none other than...

Coffee Talk

She watched the trailer a lot of times, but never really played it.
Sadly, she didn't really enjoy the game.

Visual novel is definitely not something she's interested in. And listening to other people's problems when her job requires her to do practically the same made her even less interested

"At least you made something," that's her review.
The third game I showed her was Spelunky

Her initial reaction was:
"Ah finally something that looks like the video games I know about"

She mentioned Super Mario a couple of times while booting the game.
She did better in learning the control here. Although facing monster is something she tried not to do, at least not until she learned how to use the whip

She immediately chose to play as the Female Green Spelunker, and was disappointed when she played as Yang in the tutorial
Lastly, I was about to show her FF7R, but she immediately said:

"Final Fantasy, this is that sci-fi bs right, I don't want sci-fi"

and when I was scrolling she asked something about Dishonored, which is also something she refused to play
I wanted to show her The Last of Us, but I don't have it on my PS4, so we ended up with Nathan Drake's collection

She definitely don't enjoy shooting that much, and her initial reaction was "I just need to watch this like a movie?"
One interesting/annoying thing she asked when she played Uncharted:

🤱🏽: the character looks different?
🧒🏽: from what?
🤱🏽: from the game you made
🧒🏽: mom, seriously
After that, she doesn't want to play anymore. But she did say that she wanted to try Spelunky again a couple of times.

"That game that looks like Mario, I'll probably be good at it after three or four times playing."
