I'm honoured to be elected a Fellow of the @acmedsci. I've been so lucky to work with dozens of smart, fun and generous people in my career. Thanks very much to all of you, who are too many to name! https://twitter.com/acmedsci/status/1260477957535141890
Also delighted to be in the same "class" as two wonderful former colleagues @sangerinstitute: @EleZeggini (we started on the same day!) and @HelenVFirth.
To celebrate, here are some lesser-known facts from my career:
My very first paper is my most cited, so I've been going downhill ever since the glory days with @jbmaller and @dalygene .
I _think_ I came up with the WTCCC Oxford blue / Cambridge blue Manhattan colour scheme (though @spen7cer may remember it differently).
On a trip to Africa I forgot to bring a hat, so I hastily bought one at Heathrow. This nearly ended my promising career because Mike Stratton (Director of @sangerinstitute; that's his arm behind me in the photo below) is a massive @Arsenal fan.
I once opened the batting for the Genome Campus Cricket Club with @anderson_carl. I actually hit a boundary in the first over, before we settled in for a series of defensive strokes and dot balls, until our captain shouted at us to get out and make way for real batsmen.
I do still write code...but not that often. One great thing about working @Genomicsplc is our 10% Genohack time, when even I can be freed from the tyranny of meetings and focus on my inner 10X javascript developer.
Thanks for following along, and thanks again to everyone who made my journey so far so much fun.
