Is humiliating ourselves like this for the Imams permissible?

Yes it is.

1) Such an act is best described in Arabic as ذل (dhul).

A word that has connotations of “contemptiblity” and “submission”.
2) And also has connotations of slavery-related dependence.
3) Yet, how does God instruct us to treat our parents?

“Lower unto them the wing of الذل (al-Dhull).” (17:24).

Meaning, treat your parents obediently and kindly as if you were a contemptible, submissive, & dependent slave. A ذليل.
4) But only through one way - “through mercy”. Through your acts of kindness and obedience in what is right.

But if they request us to commit what is wrong such as shirk, God orders us to disobey them.
5) Now, if God orders me to treat my parents as if I were a contemptible slave. And only through one way - “mercy” (kindness & obedience).

I would rightly assume that God would also want me to treat Him as if I were a contemptible slave.

As he is more worthy of his creation
6) In that aspect.

And he considers his creation - his “slaves”.

So just like we’re required to treat our parents as if we are contemptible slaves. We are supposed to treat God that way as well.

Except, in more total terms. We submit to God in every single possible way.
We submit to him through our bodies (prayer, fasting from food and sex, etc).

We submit to him through our thoughts

We submit to him in every way.

And we do so as undeserving, contemptible Slaves of God.
We don’t just submit to him “through” mercy, kindness and obedience in what is right, like we do to our parents.

We submit to God totally.
Now, God wants us to understand him.

So he sent a “mere human messenger” (17:93), Muhammad.

To whom he delegated the capability of ‘bringing [believers] from darkness to Light’. (65:11)
God made submission to this mere human messenger equal to submission to God.

“He who obeys the Messenger has obeyed Allah” (4:80)
11) We Shi’a believe our Imams are the spiritual and political, divinely appointed, and divinely guided successors to the Prophet.

Thus we submit to them the same way we submit to Allah. And to the prophet.

Submission to the Imams is submission to the Prophet
12) We submit to the Imams in every way. As contemptible slaves of the Imams, just like we’re contemptible slaves of God & the prophet (as I’ve explained above).

And we do so through our bodies and through our minds.
13) Crawling on the floor towards our Imams’ shrines is a symbolic gesture of our bodily submission to the Imams as worthless and undeserving slaves.

And thus our submission to Allah, as contemptible and undeserving slaves.
14) Now, if you are going to tell me:

“Crawling to the Imams shrine is a bid’ah! Where do the Prophet or even your Imams ever do so!”

To that, I answer:

Yes, it is a biddah! But it is a good biddah because of its symbolic, pure submission to Allah through the Imams.
15) If you don’t agree. And you believe every single biddah is a dalala (something that leads you astray). And thus leads you to hell.

Then akhi, throw away ALL the Qurans you have right now! Because Umar (RA) seems to have considered them a biddah

16) And that’s a hadith in Bukhari btw.

Abu Bakr dismissed Umar’s exclamation that the compilation of the Quran is a biddah.

And said it is a “good project”.

17) Not only that! But the Prophet also clearly commanded us to take readings from the Quran from a specific 4.

Zayd ibn Thabit (whose qiraa the Quran we have today was compiled), his qiraa is NOT one of those 4!

18) So there is such a thing as a ‘good biddah’, isn’t it akhi? @bu_noor89

And if crawling towards the shrines as contemptible slaves of the Imams - and thus of God - is done for a righteous purpose.

It isn’t a dalala. It isn’t forbidden. And it isn’t going to lead you to hell
