THREAD: People often ask why it’s important for educators to build their own instructional videos. Most people think that the easier and more effective solution is to just use professionally made videos instead. Here is why it’s not. 1/4
#1: Kids want to hear from you, not a disembodied voice they don’t know. The backbone of effective teaching/learning is building strong relationships. Strong relationships are built on trust. Replacing yourself with another teacher makes that relationship harder to build. 2/4
#2: It allows you to customize content based on school-wide and district-wide initiatives. Externally generated videos weren’t built with your students in mind. You’ll find yourself spending a lot more time than you think trying to figure how to make the videos fit. 3/4
#3: External videos do not withstand the ebbs and flows of shifting priorities and changing standards. All it takes is one big leadership change for the content to be useless. You want to have the power to adjust without having to rethink your entire instructional model. 4/4
