Biggest problem with being a Somali American in the medical field:

Not being able to effectively help out your community because there are no statistics that show what sort of problems your community faces. 1/5
Somalis' statistics are bundled up with the rest of the black community as they check the "black box" in all their medical records. Somalis face different social, cultural, and religious problems than the black community. 2/5
Statistics often deal with problems facing all blacks such as racism, familial problems e.t.c but never somalis who've faced wars, cross generational trauma, and immigration in addition to racism. No other community goes thru qabyaalad within itself, dhaqan celis ... 3/5
American Somalis need to figure out a way to address these problems because the American system is based on a type of structural racism that benefits blacks as a collective but never addresses culturally specific problems. 4/5
My solution: Somalis are and should be a race of their own so that they can better deal with the problems that they face alone. Only somali tailored solutions can work for us, not a generalized "black solution" 5/5
