Fuck.. I don’t know how to word it correctly but I can’t stop thinking about the juxtaposition and symbolism of the mind frames that Oikawa was in when he met Kageyama and then when he and Hinata met again in Brazil.. what does it all mean?
Think about it with me: Oikawa has never considered volleyball as a burden/chore, but when he first met Kageyama in middle school he was almost at peak insecurity over his own condition and skill. His own escape was suffocating him—
— and he was in no place to nurture or accompany Kageyama’s own talent as a true volleyball companion (which is what Kageyama was looking for/at him to be). They both share in that this period was one of great disappointment and resentment for the both of them
But when Oikawa and Hinata reunite in Brazil, Oikawa has found peace in his relationship with volleyball and is able to nurse Hinata from his own feelings of loneliness and homesickness, and thus dare I say... ended up mentoring Hinata more than he ever did Kageyama
And it makes sense.. because despite having numerous flaws in his technique initially.. Hinata was always determined to love volleyball as being something fun to do, which is a something that had to be rekindled in Oikawa on his own terms
Let me make one thing clear: Kageyama by no means forced Oikawa’s hand, even if unintentionally (the kid was 12 for goodness sake), but it has to be said that both he and Oikawa overestimated each other and that Oikawa probably resented being thrust into a position of—
— power as a senpai to Kageyama because he felt like he was being mocked (because he already had it in mind that Kageyama was going to surpass him).
Does any of this make sense????? EYE— anyway. Oihina superiority babeeeey
