Govt has consistently said it "follows the science" & reopening schools is only ever about the welfare & best interests of children. Let's explore that in light of this:

As promised the advice has now been published:
a) Based on 9 different models. None of them included the plan Govt has now adopted.
b) One favoured possibility was pupils returning on alternate weeks, which "may" reduce transmission chains in schools...

But that was the "least robustly" modelled possibility & needed more work. Govt has simply rejected it & told schools not to do it.
3/
3/
c) The potential effect of what goes on inside schools, in terms of "distancing, hygiene facilities and more etc " is not incorporated into the modelling.”
4/
4/
d) It appears the most that can be said in support of the current plan is that resuming early years provision "has a smaller relative impact than primary school which in turn has a smaller relative impact than resuming secondary schooling....
5/
5/
"However, this analysis does not incorporate potential for indirect impacts on contacts outside of school – which may differ by age of child.”

So then:
Where has the Govt's current plan for reopening schools a week on Monday come from and what is it based on?
It can't be based scientific advice that hasn't modelled this very plan& posited qualified support for at least one alternative Govt has rejected w/o more

Never mind the fact that the modelling doesn't take account of what's happening inside schools (which seems like a pretty big flaw on the face of it)
8/
8/
But if the Govt isn't even adhering to its own mantra of flowing the advice then on what authority has it published the current guidance to schools, beyond its prerogative to do so? Because it is difficult to reconcile it with any notion of "best interests" or "welfare".
