Dele Giwa was murdered not because people were afraid of him, he was killed because they were afraid that he was diminishing the myth of their power. Power is a myth we all chose to believe in.

According to Lord Varys ”Power lies where we think it lies”. It is a perception game.
Dele Giwa was murdered as a warning to others. Most political assassinations and drug murders are the same thing. They are signals to keep a potential revolt in check. Men have learned to use violence this way for centuries to prevent war but ultimately it is what causes it.
Power starts from a narrative. Kings are made from stories and myths.

”The realm. Do you know what the realm is? It's the thousand blades of Aegon's enemies, a story we agreed to tell each other over and over 'till we forget that it's a lie.” - Baelish
The genius of Achebe and recently Chimamanda is that they recognize how powerful narrative can be. We are our stories. We are what we believe that we are. We are the stories that have been told to us, the stories we keep repeating. It becomes our culture, our identity.
Who tells the story and determines what the story should be is the one with the real power. The King or the Priest in the riddle of Varys have more power over the wealthy because of the power of myth. The wealthy can however control them by funding this myth.
This is the story of the American conservative agenda and why it is funded in the shadows by the super-wealthy. This is why the propaganda of FOX is necessary and why they have moved heavily into social media as well.

The myth is the power.
The myth is powered by the narrative. True power belongs to the storyteller.
Dele Giwa was a storyteller.
