My blood is boiling at #PMQs

@BorisJohnson says care homes went into lockdown before the general population. WRONG.

Family visits stopped, but hospital discharges of *positive* residents CONTINUED.

Staff working between care homes CONTINUED.

This was not ‘lockdown’
Seven weeks ago today...SEVEN WEEKS... @BorisJohnson told me at #PMQs that care homes would get ‘all the PPE they need’ by the end of that week.

It never happened.

Still today many care homes struggle to source PPE.
It’s three weeks since @MattHancock said every resident and worker would have access to testing.

That also never happened.

That won’t happen until June we now know.
Almost 7 weeks ago I wrote to @BorisJohnson and @MattHancock telling them what was happening in the frontline warning widespread loss of life would occur unless a proper lockdown, PPE and testing was organised.

They didn’t acknowledge, read, reply, let alone act on any of this.
A broken social care system, institutional ageism, and sheer incompetence at the very top of government led to this situation.

This degree of care home deaths was not inevitable.

It could have been avoided.

That‘a what is so heartbreaking.

It’s why I‘m so inconsolably LIVID
