ok don't be mistaken, i give no fucks about whatever's going on in anon gay twitter and can't care any less about people whose kinks are having sex while wearing their military outfits and uploading it on twitter, presumably because the act of uploading is in itself a kink 1/6
but for gays to be getting off on reporting each other to state institutions like the police or the defence ministry's twitter handle? wild. 2/6
it would be too simplistic to think that the thought process is "oh i see wrong doing -> it is a citizen's duty to report all wrongdoing to sg secure -> therefore i report; not considered snitching anyway since it's there on a public platform for people to see" 3/6
instead, and this is completely inspired by @ContraPoints 's latest video about Cringe, a more pertinent question is: what is being performed when queer individuals perform the role of obedient citizen vigilante against other queer individuals they deem too perverse? 4/6
is this a way to distance themselves, respectable gay people, not-like-those-pervert gay people, away from these perverts who we can't possibly have running around the twittersphere posting obscene images that the straights might run into and think all gays are like this? 5/6
but there exist so much more gay porn on twitter that people don't go around reporting what... so that begs the question, why this one? is it as simple as the oft-mentioned sentiment, that sgeans are snitches? or does there lie something more insidious? 6/6
well losers following this thread the answer is i don't know but i'm happy to announce that i'll be going off to do my MA in comms and new media to build on my senior thesis titled "daddy issues: the politics of family, futurity and the state in singapore queer world-making" 7/6
