Tips on waste management VIII
@Elomgreenie
Waste Reduction as it sounds refer to the practice of reducing the amount of waste produced. It would include the use of less material and energy to minimize waste generation and preserve natural resources.
While a small percentage of total waste being produced today is being recycled the larger percentage are released into our enviroment. Mostly, dumped at landfills. Waste reduction helps conserve the space in these landfills and and reduce the need to build more landfills.
Waste reduction also helps to conserve resources, save energy and makes for a safer future. Lets talk about some tips to help you reduce waste around you
Feed the soil: Nigeria loses about $800bn in food waste yearly and we all add to that figure
So next time, instead of trashing your organic and food waste, why not make compost out of it and nourish the soil
Instead of relying on the plastic bags or rather 'nylon bag' you'd get at your local stores or supermarket, why not keep and use your own reusable bags.
Learn to repair items: Instead of buying cheap disposable item, buy a few high-quality item,products that are well made that you could repair when necessary
Avoid overly packaged products: One way to do this is by buying products in bulk. This reduces the amount of packaging
Stop using disposable plates: The waste usually cause by plastic plates and plastic utensils is really not worth it. Stop resorting to disposable plates
