I spend a lot of time in London’s smaller museums so for #MuseumsUnlocked here are a few of my favourites....
@FoundlingMuseum producing exhibitions that have powerful social messages like ‘Bedrooms of London’ from 2019. This is the reality for so many families who living, eating and sleeping in one space. #MuseumsUnlocked
@TwoTemplePlace is a stunning hidden gem with exhibitions that highlight regional collections from across the country. I loved seeing this ‘Buffer Girls’ from @MuseumSheffield in their 2019 John Ruskin exhibition #MuseumsUnlocked
@HornimanMuseum where I volunteered for a number of years put on the best family exhibitions including a #Lego one! Who can argue with a Lego walrus and yes that is a croissant 🥐 #MuseumsUnlocked
One of my absolute faves @bethlemmuseum went from a porta cabin to a brand new museum in 2015, shortlisted for @artfund Museum of the Year. An amazing museum that looks at the history of mental health on the site of a working hospital #MuseumsUnlocked
A lot of London’s smaller museums have closed in the last few years, including @BromleyMuseum which is much missed and closed in 2015. It re-opened in the Central Library primarily as a display with one part time staff member and limited public engagement #MuseumsUnlocked
The wonderful @DickensMuseum telling the story of Charles Dickens and his work. In won’t forget getting squiffy on gin cocktails in his basement. He loved entertaining so I am sure hew would have approved #MuseumsUnlocked
Another hidden gem is @boemuseum they have fascinating exhibitions, this one on artist Feliks Topolski showed how his drawings captured processes at the bank and social change. Here the women checked bank notes by hand. A beautiful building too! #MuseumsUnlocked
@KeatsHouse another historic house this time in Hampstead. Evocative and atmospheric it tells the story behind Keats’ short life and the inspiration that led to his poetry. #MuseumsUnlocked
@WMGallery another beautiful building I visited for the first time fairly recently in #Walthamstow it tells the story of the arts and crafts movement and William Morris. Refurbished in 2012 during closure exhibitions were show cased. @TwoTemplePlace #MuseumsUnlocked
The currently closed (before Covid-19) Geffrye Museum which will re-open as @MuseumoftheHome sometime soon! The gardens are a lovely feature and they hold a Ceramics in the City festival which I love to attend #MuseumsUnlocked
@GrantMuseum have 'One of Everything' (!) including a glass jar of moles... are you even a museum professional if you haven't taken a picture in their Micrarium? #MuseumUnlocked On this visit the museum was actually closed and the lovely @mark_carnall let me sneak in 2014
A new museum I visited this year was @Cartoonmuseumuk What a gem! Their current exhibition is on Mr Poole who provided famous cartoonists with they drawing materials, they often left him samples of their work #MuseumsUnlocked #LondonMuseums
Another gem is the beautiful @GardenMuseumLDN located in a church in Lambeth, a real surprise, they had a lovely exhibition recently on Ladybird books and I may have got a little carried away while I was there #MuseumsUnlocked #LondonMuseums
@LeightonHouse_ another undiscovered gem right next to @DesignMuseum you can't take pictures inside so here are some of the brickwork 😍 and garden. Home to Victorian artist Frederic, Lord Leighton the Arab hall has to be seen to be believed. #MuseumsUnlocked

The @BrunelMuseum is in Rotherhithe designed by Isambard Kingdom Burnel's father Marc as part of the infrastructure of the Thames Tunnel. A strange place there is a little roof garden on top where you can have cocktails in the summer #MuseumsUnlocked #LondonMuseums
A recent closure in Sept 2018 was the Clown Museum in #Dalston In the basement of Trinity Church you could visit their eclectic collection including a display of painted eggs. The church is known as the Clown's Church with a service for Grimaldi every year #MuseumsUnlocked
