Does “horror” as a movie genre depend on the presenter or the audience? Some older movies are categorized as “horror” but might seem like they belong to another genre, like “mystery”.

(BTW, for purposes of this thread, we’ll consider single category genres: Which genre is it mostly? Overusing genre hybridization often misses the raison d& #39;être of genres.)

(Also, “Fantasy or Science Fiction?” should be another discussion. Are they all that different? Is one a subcategory of the other? Is Frankenstein fantasy or science fiction… or horror? Another day….)

Basic rule of thumb: Horror is (or was) about revulsion and often accompanies other recognizable genres, like mystery, suspense, fantasy, science fiction….
