Serious question: Should Croatia apologise for the #Bleiburg massacre ? Croatia is a legal successor to socialist Yugoslavia. Its constitution celebrates the Partisan victory. Its 1990s independence struggle was led by former Partisans like Tudjman and Bobetko.
Croatian President Ivo Josipovic expressed regret for Jasenovac, despite the fact that his state - Croatia - was founded by the Partisans who destroyed the NDH, as the Croatian constitution itself recognises.
Of these two crimes (which, for the record, are not in any way equivalent) the Croatian state is more historically responsible for Bleiburg, than for Jasenovac.
I'm wondering if a Croatian state apology for Bleiburg might bring some closure and healing, and also demystify it, so that it ceases to be a foundation myth for the contemporary Croatian far-right ?
