A thread containing lots of generalisations:

It is clear that much of the reaction to the government's response to Covid-19 correlates significantly to the individual's views on both Brexit and the General Election.

The left and Remain consider gov't to have done a bad job...
...while the right and Leave consider that the gov't has done well/reasonably, especially given the unprecedented circumstances.

(And, I suspect, if we drew a Venn diagram we could probably add climate change to the equation too.)
Obviously there are exceptions, but in general I think that this is because those leaning towards the left prefer the state to be responsible, while those of the right prefer individual responsibility. Hence the (faux?) outrage from the left with the gov't latest message...
...which is less prescriptive than "stay at home"; it requires thought and individual responsibility.

Similar to Brexit: the left and Remainers prefer to be part of a herd, irrespective of circumstances; the right and Leave are happy to take responsibility for our own actions.
This means that, to the left (and Remainers) Boris is an anathema to their beliefs. At heart Boris is a Libertarian, which is why he personally hated the idea of the lockdown, but to the right he is the personification of their beliefs.
It also explains why the left simply cannot comprehend his popularity; much in the same way that most Leavers can understand the attraction of remain, but many Remainers (still) cannot understand the attraction of leaving EU.
Personally, I don't think that the gov't response to Covid-19 has been perfect, but I accept that it has done a reasonable job in exceptional circumstances.

I also believe that the virus has further expose fractures in the way that the country has been managed for decades -
- these issues predate Johnson/May/Cameron and can be traced through Brown > Blair > Major to the last years of Thatcher.

A revolution is now required, which will be similar in its impact to the changes wrought by Thatcherism.
Which is why there is plenty more angst and wailing to come from the left. Once Covid-19 is over, and we have left the EU, they will be searching for more things to complain about - and Cummings (and a majority of 80) will give that to them.
So over the coming years I expect to see reforms of NHS (especially procurement - not even the left can defend the current model), BBC, education, welfare, justice, and military.

So buckle up - the fun is just beginning 😉
