what if, against popular belief, oikawa absolutely hates being touched? — a rather self-indulgent thread
it’s not something one can expect because oikawa seems like an outgoing and affectionate guy who doesn’t mind much, so no one can really guess he can’t stand being too close to others and being touched by them, especially without permission
his fans learn this when they cluster around him too closely; they see the way he tenses and tries to edge away from the circle, his friendly smile morphing into something like a grimace, looking foreign and twisted on his face
his teammates learn this when they throw an arm around him after a win, all bright laughter which soon dies down when they notice how he stiffens & looks away. they step back with a hesitant apology, but oikawa’s already ducked away & gone, rubbing his shoulder a little too hard
even close friends he makes during high school, matsukawa and hanamaki, soon learn that there are boundaries they can’t cross which they normally wouldn’t consider; but oikawa makes it clear with the way he folds his arms to his chest sometimes, almost like a barrier
and so, everyone comes to know that, while oikawa likes lively conversation and playful banter and receiving gifts from admirers, he is not someone to be carelessly touched or hugged.

but that rule is not without an exception.
because people notice that when a certain well-built number 4 places a firm hand on oikawa’s shoulder, or pats his back, or ruffles his hair in an attempt to dishevel it, or pulls him in for a one-armed hug, oikawa never shies away —
— instead he seems to melt into it, smiling at the touch no matter how small or fleeting, and will sometimes ask for it with his eyes when he needs it, and iwaizumi always complies.
maybe it’s what comes with being childhood best friends, this seemingly telepathic communication, this comfort that one can’t find with others. whatever it is, everyone is quick to learn: oikawa hates being touched, unless the skin against his belongs to one iwaizumi hajime.
