This, with over 3k likes so far, is part of a peculiar Twitter genre: fake library photos.

This is not Umberto Eco's library, just as the other equally widely distributed similar photo is not Bill Gates's library.

Great libraries don't necessarily look visually impressive. https://twitter.com/RaminNasibov/status/1260142681495306240
One of the many fake Bill Gates's library photos - this one with.....ooooh!.... a hidden bar. https://twitter.com/Nishels/status/1260157329485565952
Umberto Eco's main library was huge but rather institutional looking, well organized for practical daily use.

Jorge Louis Borges' library at his apartment in Buenos Aires was relatively small, visitors expecting a personal Biblioteca de Babel routinely came away disappointed.
Another, different, but equally fake "Bill Gates's library" photo.

Very occasionally, a famous person's library does in fact look exactly just how you hope it would look - this is Karl Lagerfeld's library.
Here are some real photos of Umberto Eco's library, as tweeted by @nntaleb a year or two ago. https://twitter.com/nntaleb/status/1068920795362144257
An elaborate private library with fancy oak panelling doesn't necessarily mean you're amazingly well-read with a rich intellectual hinterland - it usually just means you're rich. Look at the tragic selection of books on the shelves here...

Although it veers very close to - and sometimes crosses - the borders of kitsch and vulgarity, Jay Walker's "Library of the History of the Human Imagination", at his home in Ridgefield, Conn., is undeniably impressive both for its architecture, and for its contents.
Another view of Jay Walker's library in Connecticut, the architecture of which, as you'll see, was inspired by the graphic works of M.C. Escher.
Jay Walker has some seriously rare and important books, and an impressive assortment of what's known technically as "other cool shit".
Unfortunately he's had many of his books very expensively and hideously rebound in what might be described as the "neo Franklin-Mint" style.....
Keith Richard's home library has the kind of "bohemian-luxe" vibe you'd expect.
...while in her library Nigella Lawson has mastered "artfully cluttered".
Rod Stewart's library shows all the restraint and pared-down minimalist styling you'd expect.
This is Michael Jackson's library at his Neverland ranch, which held over 10 000 books. Jackson was a keen bibliophile, with I believe a particular fondness for YA literature.
Ernest Hemingway's library at Finca Vigía, his home in San Francisco de Paula Ward in Havana, had a higher than usual "dead animals to books" ratio.
Hemingway's library had a higher than usual "dead animals to books" ratio, sure, yes, but not an *unprecedented* one. For "unprecedented", one has to go to Teddy Roosevelt's library.
This is Elton John's library at his country home in Woodside, England.
....and this is the library in Elton's London home, with some pleasing "gilt 'n leopard skin" accents.
Often incorrectly identified as Bill Gates's library, this is in fact the private research library at Skywalker Ranch - George Lucas’ movie ranch (but not his home) - in Nicasio, California.
Frank Sinatra, who was a voracious reader, sits in the 'Kennedy room' at his home in Palm Springs. This guest room, where the senator stayed for 2 days in 1960 during a campaign visit to California, was later converted into a library, with a plaque commemorating Kennedy’s visit.
Ian Fleming was a serious book collector. Shown here are his personal custom bound copies of his James Bond books and the screenplays based on them, as well as his home library in Sevenhampton, with his famous collection of books representing milestones in science & technology.
So @RaminNasibov's tweet with this entirely fake photo of Umberto Eco's library now has 6k retweets & 45k likes - and this image will live on, incorrectly linked to Eco, not just on Twitter but on Pinterest and elsewhere indefinitely. Fake news spreads when we WANT it to be true.
