#opensource question: when you release code (e.g. on @github), do you chose a license? If so, which licence type, and what are the pros/cons in your experience? thanks!

Thanks for the input! Most of you seem to recommend MIT license. FYI, I just learned from @HugoPedder and @RemiGau that one advantage of the GNU General Public License v3.0 (GLP3) is that it does not allow code distribution/reuse for closed-source systems (i.e. paid software).
However, whether this is truly an advantage needs to be considered carefully. If you want companies to invest in a field, they tend to require IP. Not implying that I'd be able to come up with such lucrative type of code myself, though a few of you might. cc @NikWeiskopf @Stikov
