Live, Laugh, Love aside... a thread on things I learnt from running a small, profitable business for a year or so.
Possibly helpful for anyone thinking about doing it.
Not so for those who already do.

JFDI. Quitting your job (if you have one) and going out alone can be fucking nerve-racking. Do it. It& #39;ll be amazing (he says). But seriously, just fucking do it. Plan it. Then do it.
Why? Way before you JFDI, ask yourself why you& #39;re doing it? If there& #39;s a good enough why ignore this and definitely JFDI.

Have something lined up. When we started I was deep in my overdraft, had no savings, had a ton of bills like everyone else does. But, we had two clients - who were friends of friends - who paid us on time. This was the lifeline.
Before we had a website up we had an introduction deck.
This changed approx 722x but it sold our offering before we had good work to talk about/a portfolio we were happy represented our offering.
It also saved us spending loads on a website no one would look at.

Keep your overheads simple.

You will lose more pitches than you win.
You will talk about a lot of things that will never materialise.
All of this is progress.

My analogy (without yet knowing what it& #39;s like to look after a baby) is that running a business is like having a baby on a rollercoaster. Your baby is the business, it will keep you up, wake you, love you, and probably hate you. The rollercoaster is the journey mannn.
Measure it. Why you won, why you lost, when it came in, when it didn& #39;t, who it came through & when you were busy vs dead. How much you make, how much you spend.
Looking back on it is where you can learn how to adapt. Notion helped for this.

Have a goal.
You will meet it and it will feel fucking fantastic.
If you don& #39;t, that& #39;s absolutely ok.

Be open.
I& #39;m maybe to open but fuck it.
Talk about the good stuff.
Shout about the bad stuff.
Someone who knows the answer might hear you.

Talk.
Meet people.
Talk to people.
Read things.
Go for beers with people.
Go for tea with people.
Meet people outside your bubble.
If you don& #39;t know them, stalk them until you do.

Take it slow. Walk before you walk faster. Fuck I feel like that motivational speaker guy off Ozark now. Sorry.
Don& #39;t imitate. You are not *insert business name here*. You are your own thing - hence working out your why (point 2) - if you want to be *insert business name here*, go and get a job there!
