The famed gigantic Buddha statues of Bamyan, Afghanistan.
They were carved out of mountain cliffs & were completed by 6th century CE. The bigger statue was 174 ft & the smaller one 115 ft tall. Most probably built by local Kushan rulers or traders along Silk route
... Path in Gandhara art. Silk route runs through the Hindu Kush mountain region, in the Bamyan Valley. It has been a caravan route linking the markets of China with those of the Western world. It was the site of several Buddhist monasteries, center for religion, philosophy, art.
The statues survived attacks from Genghis Khan, Babur, Aurangzeb (during whose attack the statue lost its legs) & Nadir Shah. A protected UNESCO heritage monument, it was finally blowed up in 2001 by Taliban terrorist groups. This was done despite the pleas of many countries,
including India, who offered to arrange for the transfer of all the artifacts to India, "where they would be kept safely and preserved for all mankind".

The attempts are to restore the statues.🙏
