Interesting how govt officials and media advocating for the return of football like to add that, of course, a resumption must only take place when the safety issues and protocols have been sorted out. But do they really mean that?
It's a way of protecting themselves from criticism by saying "Yes, football needs to return quickly BUT only when it is ready" But it's important to remember that the current discussion is not about the return of football in general but the return of the current season
If the plan was about the resumption of football in general then that would allow you time to come up with a thorough, well-planned strategy for football's return when you are sure the worst of the pandemic is over and time can be used to your advantage.
However, the plan is instead about the resumption of the 2019-2020 season and that allows you very little time to prepare a sound, workable plan. And that's why there are more questions than answers regarding the league's strategy right now.
The clock is ticking on the opportunity to resume the season because if it takes place too late it will have a ripple effect on the subsequent season and other competitions as well. There is very little time to get ready.
And this is why when pushing to resume the season, the statement that "football must resume but only when it is safe" is deceitful. Because there just isn't enough time to prepare safely for that while many people are still dying and we're still learning about the virus. So...
The authorities should stop trying to recklessly push a plan that has more serious questions than answers while pretending that they are concerned about the safety of all those involved in football. Pursuing the 2019-2020 season is not feasible in terms of safety.
