Here's the thing, I'll always aim for academia as long it is something that remains in my sight and capability. That is true of my results, so far. I ejected myself from the world of IT, into the humanities. https://twitter.com/tanya_plibersek/status/1260455567950258179
Whatever questions on sanity, or lucidness around that decision remains to be seen - but I see a huge gap in the digital humanities, and addressing the social problems that arise from the ever-increasing uptake of technology. This has only accelerated with COVID.
My will to continue will not be dented by the prospect of 'less pay'. But I do worry about the bright-eyed and bushy-tailed peeps coming through, who will not view academia as favourably. We will bleed our best in the humanities, and our communities will be far poorer for it.
I won't falter in my path, but geez we more people on this - the 2nd year course on digital sociology was cancelled due to poor uptake BEFORE this mess. It's not something only a mere handful of the less brilliant among us can properly pay attention to. Further study is needed...
.....something, something.
