Dr Draco Malfoy: a thread
FY1 - a little confrontational but otherwise gets the job done. Starts to get a reputation fairly early on for handing over to chase bloods, all of which seem to be abnormal requiring urgent intervention.
Care of the Elderly: The consultant says it's easier for him to give the enema directly after the PR so he does, but unfortunately he was not wearing adequate PPE.
On-call: Verifying a patient in the dead of night (no pun intended)
Two months in and he is already competing to set up the regional teaching programme so he has those valuable points on his specialty application.
'Pneumonia: A report of 2 cases and review of the literature' was unfortunately rejected prior to peer review...once again.
FY2: Now he has been a doctor for a whole year, he doesn't quite see why he has to attend teaching on chronic kidney disease.
But happy when something neurosurgical comes up.
Unfortunately he wasn't successful in his application to Neurosurgery ST1 as he hasn't got his full MRCS yet, hasn't published in the Lancet Neurology nor been awarded an OBE.
General becoming an annoyance now. Hands over to chase a CT brain that was reported two hours ago.
Manages to pull it together for his educational supervisor meeting. There were a few concerning comments on his MSF about not being responsive to his bleep but overall he passes.
Takes up a Junior Clinical Fellow post in Neurosurgery which has a teaching component. This will surely secure his application to ST1 this year.
The consultant doesn't appreciate his quips and thinks he should really buck his ideas up if he wants a training post.
Another rejection from ST1 training.
Not surprising as he has only just passed MRCS Part B.
<insert existential crisis>
His parents suggest maybe he applies for something else like core medicine or GP training.
The ST1 interview was rough. It never gets any easier.
Finally receives his acceptance for ST1 Neurosurgery.
