My mom (a Trump supporter) asked me today why I am so invested in going against Trump. “He loves America”
I told her she instilled values in me that do not align with who Trump is. 1/
“If you lie to me you will get in far more trouble than if you tell the truth. “ I heard this 1000 times as a kid. I was taught to be honest & to expect honesty from those around me. “Honesty & integrity” isn’t that what you taught me. 2/
“Own your mistakes. Learn from them.” The president blames others. How is he learning if he doesn’t take ownership? 3/
“Treat others as you would want to be treated”. If the president is using his massive platform to call people names & attack people personally what does that say about how we treat others? 4/
My parents taught me to be kind & tolerant. To be honest & always take the high road. When I see her stand by a man who continuously demonstrates he stands against everything they have ever taught me how can I be silent? 5/
“If you borrow something, return it in better condition than when you borrowed it.” I want to give my children a better country than I inherited. Not because I inherited a bad country but because we should always strive to improve. 6/
I want to give my children a country represented by integrity & honesty. That no value is worth sacrificing. A country where healthcare, a home they can call their own, retirement savings, & an education isn’t a luxury but within reach. 7/
A country built on the foundation of the strength of communities & selflessness. A country so great we are proud people want to come here for a better life & we welcome them. 8/
I am who my parents raised me to be. How can I support a man who goes against everything they ever taught me? (End)
