Idk how to say it but I find that having a multicultural upbringing is one of the things I find most important when I get close to someone.
Even if we have no cultures in common, our sense of cultural displacement and the open mindedness we have is such a unifying factor to me.
I know it doesn’t make sense, and I’m speaking for myself, but multicultural ppl sometimes have more in common with other multicultural ppl than w ppl from their actual cultures that don’t have our perspectives and experiences.
Like I don’t have anything against ppl who have only one ethnic/cultural background and who have always been the racial majority in their country, but a lot of them just don’t *get it* and not even visiting/studying abroad gives the same life experiences of growing up “different”
It’s so frustrating to talk to ppl who have never left “their country” bc they treat you like smth exotic just for existing. Like my family history is long and all over the gd planet but they feel entitled to hear it just to explain my existence in their little bubble.
Lmao this thread went from wholesome pondering to salt really fast 🧂💀
