...there are loud thuds, but not frequently, so they tend to scare the bejeezus out of me... 
...also, and because the front of our 2nd floor walk-up apartment is directly above covered parking, echos and car sounds add “ambiance” 
...did i mention the eardrum-exploding, 
building-wide fire alarm 
has gone off TWICE in the last 24 hours? yeah. fun times... 
it really adds the charm to the place 
although, my ears have been ringing all day...

...one would surmise that having ceiling fans in every room, and the way the windows are purposely designed for air-flow 
adds a nice white-noise overtone...

...but the pipes 
we share with neighbors are REALLY. LOUD. 
(note: i like to pretend i’m from NYC,
so i’ve lived with waaay obnoxious building pipes in Manhattan and Brooklyn, and this... is worse...)
