A friend from @Aces_NRW requested that I share a post from our Facebook page about TERFs, political lesbianism and their divisive tactics. I am only too happy to do so! My comments on the original post are long, but I& #39;ll share the Tumblr blogs & try to summarise my own commentary.
Okay, so, whew, that& #39;s a lot to read, and there& #39;s a lot more coming now. But I strongly urge anyone who wants to truly understand the divisions in our community, and why exclusionists believe & say as they do, to get educated on this topic. It& #39;s worth it & it will all make sense
This journey, for me, because when I realised there was a consistent block of people who held very extreme, exclusionary views, and how they& #39;d always be very hostile towards the word queer, how people would call them TERFs and they& #39;d get really defensive about that.
I& #39;d seen a lot of people on Tumblr refer to how & #39;TERF rhetoric& #39; had begun to infiltrate Tumblr around 2013, and how exclusionists were repeating a lot of this, but exclusionsts would angrily reject the comparison & I wanted to know what was up with that.
What I discovered is that, they were right. & #39;Queer is a slur& #39; did begin on Tumblr ~2014. Around the same time as & #39;cis is a slur& #39; and & #39;TERF is a slur& #39;. I managed to find a way to & #39;search tags by date& #39; and traced the very first post tagged & #39;queer is a slur& #39; to December 2013.
