so im not blaming the entire racing industry for zoë’s kissing spine. i have zero way of knowing if that’s the case. however, i do know from speaking w my vet that many of the 2-3 y/os at our tracks have it. could be an arkansas thing. my point in speaking on breaking in later+
was not to be another one to shit on racing. simply pointing out that correlation & while that does not equal causation, it does make me question breaking in horses so young. any weight on an underdeveloped topline has the potential to cause KS. in any industry +
i mentioned the racing industry bc that is where zo came from & what my vet said. zo’s KS was most likely caused or at the very least perpetuated by competition & not carrying herself correctly due to my lack of edu & instruction. +
but anyway sue me for thinking horses shouldnt be broken in to ride so young. on that point i will not budge. to clarify, i do not think that every horse broken in young gets KS or even a majority. every horse is different but i cannot see the harm in encouraging waiting to ride.
