Much talk about when to re-open businesses, not enough talk about how we should liberalize proscriptions against people seeing, even one-on-one, family members and dear friends. We need to acknowledge that total proscriptions against that sort of human engagement is untenable.
I don’t have the answers, but I feel like we’re talking about when nail salons and bars should open, and not when it might be socially acceptable to see one’s sibling or friend. The latter should be the first priority when it comes to “opening up.”
Across the board proscriptions against in-person human social interactions (outside of couples who happen to already live together) should be the VERY first prohibition to be removed. Not golf courses or malls.
Spending time with other human beings is a fundamental human need, not a luxury. There may be dire times when we cannot enjoy it, I do not disagree, but such a proscription has to be wielded as minimally and cautiously as possible.
