Please don’t lose faith in Dr. Hinshaw.

There have been a number of decisions that indicate Dr. Hinshaw is not the final authority in decision making regarding Public Health.

I’ll list them for you. https://twitter.com/AlbertaYoda/status/1260342006959599616
1. Upon realization that COVid-19 was spreading wildly in other parts of the nation, Kenney and several UCP MLAs opined that closing schools would hurt the economy. Dr. Hinshaw consulted with school boards and determined they could not provide a safe environment.
2. Kenney personally waived work camps from mandatory public health accommodations. When Kearl Lake had an outbreak, he personally reassured the public that Imperial and govt had worker safety as top priority. Throwing CMOH under the bus for his decision.
3. Responsibility for operations of a private LTC facility in Calgary was assumed by AHS. When questioned about this, Dr. Hinshaw stated she was unaware of details and wasn’t yet informed of the situation. She’s the CMOH. That decision should have been recommended by her.
4. Cargill had an OHS review by video. Providing them approval for the COVid-19 accommodations. Turns out the general manager is a relative of an MLA. When a small number of COVid-19 cases were confirmed, the facility should have been closed immediately for reassessment.
5. When Cargill finally was shut down, the outbreak was the largest in North America, not just AB or Canada. Several MSM darlings of UCP amplified propaganda that food supply chain was threatened by the shut down. Echoed by MLAs and Kenney. Pressure to reopen ASAP.
Cargill illegally made a deal with OHS and provincial government and did not include union or workers representation. A CMOH can’t waive those requirements. But an MLA or premier can.
6. Two people have died, several more remain quite ill. Issues manager Matt Wolf spun Cargill as a non issue because 85% of infected had recovered. But 2 people died and 15% were unnecessarily infected because COVid adaptations were inadequate. Negating sick & dead workers lives.
7. JBS meat processing and Chicken processing plant both have confirmed cases in AB. A CMOH would order closure, a deep clean of facility and order amendments to protect workers. Both remained open with minimal intervention.
8. Towards the end of April, a reporter asked Dr. Hinshaw if golf courses would reopen soon. Her response was blunt. She stated golf wasn’t an essential service, so the answer would be no.

Couple weeks later, Kenney gleefully announced golf would resume first weekend in May.
9. After joining Dr. Hinshaw’s daily report when reports of her popularity went national, Kenney moved to capitalize on her popularity. First he began appearing after Dr. Hinshaw. Then he began appearing before her and took responsibility for some of the daily statistics reports.
He made sure to mention deaths and offer his condolences to affected families. Kenney is well known to demand centre stage and the spotlight. Just like Trump.

He presented provincial models & looked foolish because he clearly didn’t understand the models or what they modeled.
When asked why he presented the models instead of Dr. Hinshaw, who knew exactly what those models were used for, he stated, because he was ultimately responsible for the COVid-19 response. Clearly communicating he has the final say on all decisions.
Kenney has a long history of micromanaging and claiming all successes and pointing fingers elsewhere for all failures. Besides his penchant for political theatre, commandeering the decisions and spotlight are his calling card.
I found the reporting chain on line. CMOH reports directly to the Deputy Minister of Health, not AHS board or CEO. Except in an emergency. CMOH then reports to the Minister of Health directly, bypassing the DM.
10. Kenney commented upon an arrest made at the legislature grounds. He lamented the rights of individuals to protest the lockdown, though in February he condemned protests for section 35 indigenous rights.
He also indicated if he did not like the answers law enforcement gave for the rationale of the arrest, he would personally amend the Alberta COVid-19 Public Health Order to accommodate protesters constitutionally enshrined right to protest and associate.
Again, throwing Dr. Hinshaw under the bus. Undermining her orders and painting her as the autocratic dictator of unconstitutional orders.

The problem isn’t Dr. Hinshaw. Those 10 examples are off the top of my head.
It helps to see things in aggregate. Or all together.

Kenney has much more finesse than Trump. He also has a completely complicit MSM, back up network far right media who echo his ideology and praise every decision he makes, issues managers to flood SM with propaganda and ...
a $30M per year war room to push perception in his favour. Dr. Hinshaw is being undermined every step of the way. She’s an expert and has demonstrated her expertise. And got noticed nationally. Outshining Kenney.
Don’t ask why she stays. Because she is a professional, replacing her would be a political appointment and she is fighting for public health. Her replacement would be surely a yes man and do premiers bidding.
She’s a hero sacrificing her medical reputation, and her public image to stay and have some influence on decisions that will benefit the public’s health. We need to support Dr. Hinshaw more than ever and start asking Kenney tough questions, like why he is undermining the CMOH.
The problem is the dictator we have as premier. A petty jealous man who doesn’t care about public health. Kenney only cares about getting credit and removing the lockdown to enrich his anxious donors and supporters.
Dr. Hinshaw is saving lives. Kenney is putting lives at risk.

Fascists & dictators attack trust in institutions to maintain control. Kenney is attacking CMOH and public health as an institution because it interferes with his ideological decisions and makes him look bad.
It’s also the same strategy being used across US by Trump and many Republican Governors.

Contrast AB CMOH and QC CMOH. One is complicit and rushing headlong into removing lockdown & one keeps recommending public health safety measures. Statistics demonstrate which is which.
