The majority of messages that I'm getting right now say one of two things: 1) I've been laid off, can you help me, and 2) I'm just entering the workforce and I want to know how I can have a career like yours.

I’m committed to helping as many people as I can, but I also wanted to
post some thoughts for everyone to see in case I don’t connect with you 1:1.

I am forty two years old and I am working at my thirty first job. 31st. You didn’t read that wrong.

I grew up in NC, and

I was a babysitter

A cook at a pizzeria

A call center worker
A pizza delivery driver

And a Starbucks barista.

After college, I moved to NYC, where I was

A gym front counter attendant

A photographer’s assistant

A photographer’s studio manager

A salesperson for a photography company

After two years, it was too hard to survive, so
I moved back to NC. In with my parents. I had nothing. I felt defeated.

But I got a job as a front desk clerk at a hotel and

As a hostess at a restaurant

I also worked overnight taking inventory at stores while they were closed

I was a photographer’s assistant
I sold trade show booths

I was a salesperson at a furniture store

I went back to my first pizzeria and became the manager

I was another photographer’s assistant

And then I moved to LA.

I was a talent agency assistant at two different agencies

Then I became a talent agent!
I was so excited! I had an office and my own assistant!

Then I met Ashton Kutcher and he hired me to be HIS assistant.

After 3 years of working 24/7, he promoted me to VP of Production.

After 5 years of working for him, I moved to Thailand to volunteer
and expose myself to new cultures.

When I came back, I moved back to NYC, determined to win that city this time.

I couldn’t find a job.

I went back to being an assistant and worked for a physically and verbally abusive billionaire.

I left and went to work for Chris Lighty,
a legendary but troubled hip hop manager, who died by suicide.

I took a job as an assistant at a licensing company but left after two weeks because I received an offer from Tyra Banks to be her assistant.

Tyra promoted me to Director of Communications! and I was back!
Back on somewhat firm footing.

Then I worked at a startup as their Director of Communications.

Then I worked as the Director of Brands at the first-ever influencer agency. After a year I was promoted to VP. Back to being a manager and leader after a number of years rebuilding.
Phew! Then the company was sold.

I went to Twitter as the Head of Creators for Vine. I worked at TWITTER! They gave us FREE MEALS! People were so SMART! I looked at CONTENT ON A SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM FOR MY JOB! I felt like I was living in a dream.

Then Twitter shut Vine down.
