The smartest kids in Australia don't want to work in Startups. Most of them end up in Investment Banking or Corporate Law. It's a tragic waste. We've been working on this problem for a few years. If we can re-direct even some of these young people, Australia will be better off.
One thing we do is support student clubs that help inspire people through technology & entrepreneurship. @tb_ventures is one such club and they are amazing. Just last year they worked with Startup Link to produce an anti-careers fair.
All the best Australian startups were there including @canva, Baraja, @theiconicau, @iAuditorbySC and more. One unexpected benefit for us was that @batkomichael met Yan, who now works at @startmate! Small correction and thanks to everyone for bringing it up. I should have started this set of tweets by saying "Many smart kids don't want to work in startups..." Our most talented people aren't just in commerce or finance. They're in arts, humanities and everywhere else.
