A lot of talk on here right now about Michael Clayton. I love that movie so much that I read its screenplay from time to time. There is something very special about how it's written — you feel you've read a novel by the time you're done with it.
A few years ago, @briankoppelman did an interview with Tony Gilroy about it, and Brian's questions did a great job of summing up exactly what was so special about it. I think it's this ep? https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/slate/the-moment-with-brian-koppelman/e/57422291
Anyway, it's how I found out about The Moment, the podcast, and I've been hooked since. And I've also gotten my hand on every single Tony Gilroy screenplay since then, except The Cutting Edge. The Bournes are also great. M. Clayton is the best, I think.
I am a huge film school nerd who reads screenplays like other people read, like, books and magazine stories.
Also, am just remembering this: I didn't like it the first time I saw it. I understood why it was good. But I didn't like it. Then @harmancipants brought it back into my life a few years ago and this is what happened. I now write threads about it.
Which goes to show I'm not sure what. I will say this. There are very few movies I can watch because I've interviewed so many movie stars. I am grateful to never have interviewed Clooney because I couldn't bear having feelings like that about this.
Also, Sydney Pollack makes things good just by being in them.
