Don’t wanna be that smug lockdown guy knocking off projects around the house but I just removed a filter adapter ring from an old lens that’s been stuck for 14 years. #regardezmoi #smug #lockdownvictories #nikon
Ok let’s ignore that I’ve evidently put the glass back in wrongly, so at infinity it focuses at about 12”. #punter #dontgiveupthedayjob
Fixed that now - the CRC mechanism wasn't slotting in.
Having said that, there's loads of focus shift stopping down, and off axis is very blurry wide open, making me think a previous repair (evidence of which inside) has botched the CRC setup somehow.
OK having taken it apart and put it back together again approximately 30 times, through a process of calculated adjustments, physics and blind luck I reckon I've got it back to spec. Results look fine now - not bad for a 50+ yr old lens.
In accordance with the prevailing internet photography zeitgeist having done something once I am now an Expert. Just need to setup my youtube channel, will update this thread with my 1–1 Lens Repair Workshop dates later. Prices starting at £600 per half day.
