Please stop framing breaking quarantine as "would you die for this" when the real question is "would you kill for this". https://twitter.com/thomaskaine5/status/1260218889729904640
This framing that quarantine breaking is about "personal risk" and your own immune system is what is straight-up killing disabled, elderly, and immuno-compromised people--as well as essential workers who are predominantly people of color.
"Would you kill your waiter for a steak" is the question here, not whether or not you'd personally die for one.
"Would you kill your sex partner for a hookup" is the question, not whether or not you'd die to get laid.
"Would you kill a gas station attendant to get to a golf game?"
"Would you kill a tow-truck operator to go to the park?"
"Would you kill the cashier at the bait shop to go fishing at the lake?"
This isn't about whether you'd die, but whether you'd kill.
"Would you kill a tow-truck operator to go to the park?"
"Would you kill the cashier at the bait shop to go fishing at the lake?"
This isn't about whether you'd die, but whether you'd kill.
If you're responding to this to cynically tell me that lots of people are willing to kill for their own convenience, please know that I know that.
I care about phrasing the "reopen" argument accurately; that doesn't make me a wide-eyed Pollyanna.
