Tomorrow is the 35 year anniversary of the MOVE bombing, when the city of Philadelphia obliterated a block of houses in West Philly. My Nana lived 5 blocks away at the time. Growing up in the area I was shocked to learn how few people knew about the bombing, even as we got older
The 1985 bombing wasn't the first violent incident Philly police provoked against MOVE. Former mayor Frank Rizzo "regarded MOVE as a terrorist organization," and in 1978, blockaded the house to deny water and supplies
When MOVE resisted orders to vacate, the police literally used a bulldozer. Then they used high-pressure hoses to blast water into the house, and later, tear-gas. One officer was killed, and officers who physically beat MOVE member Delbert Africa were later acquitted
Delbert Africa served 42 years in prison and was released in January. Chuck Africa, the last of the nine jailed MOVE 9 members to be released or die in prison, was freed in February. Details on the 1978 incident are here: https://collaborativehistory.gse.upenn.edu/stories/move-powelton-village
All that to say there is a lot of interesting political stuff going on in Philadelphia and PA right now, all the more so given the city's insane and pretty recent history
