Anecdotally, I’m hearing my friends & colleagues VERY concerned seeing lots of ppl not wearing masks when out (walks/runs, also at stores); yet despite the demonstrated benefits, public health officials stand by guidance that doesn’t require them. Why this disconnect?

Masks (“reusable face coverings” I’m told to call them) make a difference both in transmission and perception. A portion of the population won’t do it unless required; another portion will put up a big fuss. Clearly politics is winning out here, amirite?
