A THREAD THAT NONE OF YOU ASKED YET I STILL DO BC I'M A SIMP
Sorry if it's nonsensical and rather a jumbled mess. Just like my thoughts
I try to be spoiler free BUT forewarning MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS for context if need be

Sorry if it's nonsensical and rather a jumbled mess. Just like my thoughts

Disclaimer: This is how I interpret things. If you have other perspectives, that's cool! Feel free to talk to me about those too. I just wanna do it because I love it okay
I may be a noob bc I don't play the video games but this is just out of sheer love and amazement

-historical Wallachia / Romania
-that makes it Historical Urban Fantasy, I guess

-Magic
-Monsters

OK. First. Why *I* watch it? I have been fascinated by Vampires story since middle school. I think about last year, I saw Castlevania on the "Others You May Like" tab on my Netflix. Then, I saw an Alucard fanart somewhere and remembered thinking, "Wow, he is beautiful."
I was interested last year. But I had some doubts. Between my master's thesis/internship/graduating/ looking for a job, was it for my attention span?? LOL. Nah, fam. But this year thought yea might get around to watching
and these two encouraged me @CyraBaine @takesmetochurch

So it was really one of those series that "call" to me (I always end up liking things a bit MORE this way) & @CyraBaine @takesmetochurch only gave me the push I need
y'all the real MVPs. I'm so grateful
Although this series kind of wrenched my heart out in the process...

Where do I start? So Netflix's Castlevania's premise starts when Dracula wants to eradicate the human race for burning his human wife alive & accusing her of witchcraft. Dracula summons an army from hell to do this. The story follows a trio's journey to combat this & his purpose.
It is based on Konami's long-running gothic horror video game of the same name. First one was released in 1986!!! Imagine
established series tend to be good anyway since worlds and universes are, well, ~established~ & writers probably did their research; reason number

Perhaps you see familiar names or your faves

RICHARD ARMITAGE (Thorin; The Hobbit)
GRAHAM MCTAVISH (Dwalin; The Hobbit)
THEO JAMES (Hot guy from Divergent)
JASON ISAACS (Lucius Malfoy, HP)
Call me uncultured but idk the women VAs prior to this :(

For me, characters draw me in first before the plot. Castlevania's characters are so well-written, rounded, developed, flawed, VERY THREE-DIMENSIONAL. They all have DEPTHS. They're DIVERSE. And.. You will have so much fun analyzing them, particularly in Season 3

Also (most important) THEY HAVE SEXY VAMPIRE LADIES as villains and they look like this
each of them are a POWERFUL woman with strong intellect & each a specialized TACTICIAN to boot. This alone should be a good enough reason for you to watch

I love Lenore so much, man.
Also another woman character looks like THAT
like she doesn't even have to eat us all up like that https://twitter.com/powerhouseanim/status/1245853019163381762?s=19

And don't get me started on this man
He is beautiful Your Honour https://twitter.com/powerhouseanim/status/1245471215013244937?s=19

And many many more beautifully designed and animated characters that just show how well-done the show is really

To add to reason 2 & 3, the VAs keep their ACCENTS and honestly that is endearing and adds to the depths and diversity of the characters.

Haduh capek uga bikin trit

Ok lanjutzzz.. reason
is the PLOT. Because the characters are complex and interesting, the plot is so well executed although the premise started out simple. Flashback episodes are hard to watch for me tbh because I would just get emotional... it is THAT good...

The plot development, the execution, the THRILL, the SUSPENSE, the INTENSITY of it all.. ugh.. *chef's kiss* and to top it off already spiced with COMPLEX, well-rounded, and three-dimensional characters... some characters went through a hell of an arc, making their descend into
their madness / their fate believable and even understandable; You can even see the appeal.. Season after season, it DELIVERS.

For our main couple, we NEVER see them display common affection like kiss, or hug to date... But we just knowwww that one character is so whipped and they're so in love. The SOFTEST ugh FUCK my heart is so weak

Creators/writers decide to tell us they're in some kind of relationship (or at least sleeping with each other lol) through other means. Which is ????
Why, through
BANTERS, of course...
You'll see a lot of playful (and not) banters with the main heroes of the series throughout. Playfulness and banters in romance to me are EVERYTHING.

To add to #4, the
FIGHTING CHOREOGRAPHY / SEQUENCES are also OTHERWORDLY man. Like I said, research was obviously done and put much thought on. Especially the fighting choreo for the women??? THE SPICE, man... Idk if I ever watch an animation with fighting choreo this good?

This is also a good time to let y'all know I love Sypha Belnades. She is BADASS. Her fighting technique is A++++++ She's always ready to fight, but for her I'm always ready to kiss

Another reason to watch it is
SEEING MEN CRY
Men shed actual tears too. And they really show that just because a male character cries does not mean that it reduces their masculinity. No choice but to stan

Men shed actual tears too. And they really show that just because a male character cries does not mean that it reduces their masculinity. No choice but to stan

But what's interesting is that they cry not because they lose a fight (which, if my memory serves me right, is rather ubiquitous in shounen anime), but because they internalize their sadness and grief and they don't communicate it with other people :))) tragic.
I ship all characters of Castlevania with healthy family life / relationship and therapy

To further add to #4, the plot also has
INTERESTING RELIGIOUS DISCOURSE, discussing blind faith, rejecting dogma, & showing perspectives on sinning. The Church/Catholicism are villains too to an extent in the series, thus the story itself contains element of blasphemy

This is my favorite personal reason though. I love such discourse. It's definitely not a feel-good series

11 is Knowledgeable woman and Dumb Himbo man ship dynamic. This is for y'all morosexual

Watch it for clear skin

Also bottom men who show signs of wanting to get pegged. We have to stan.
Reason 12 to watch is SEXY DOMINANT VAMPIRE LADIES who can step on you. Wait, have I mentioned this before? What do you mean I already have?
Reason 13 may make you consider watching. It's full of underlying angst. Especially when Dracula was first introduced, God Damn. And then Alucard comes along and even more angst. I'm crying just remembering

Anjir kok perasaan gak habis-habis ya....
Reason 14 is LINES DELIVERY
So coool man... as I watch, I had some revelations because of the way the characters deliver their lines and it's the most amazing feeling it got me sh00k
Reason 14 is LINES DELIVERY
So coool man... as I watch, I had some revelations because of the way the characters deliver their lines and it's the most amazing feeling it got me sh00k

Adding to reason
further, their CHARACTER DESIGN is really something else too... In S3, there's this newly introduced character who got "mad" glinting eyes, always seeming like he's looking far away, bc he's portrayed as "changing his views" & "becoming not right in the head"

Noticing "little" things like this to a character's design and Easter eggs from the game if you played them in the past is precisely why you would enjoy watching Castlevania.
So far in the three seasons that the series have, it hasn't flopped AT ALL. Each season with a purpose and is truly executed beautifully for the audiences, with ample room for us to learn, enjoy but also interpret things. No filler episodes at all. 10/10.
And that concludes this thread because I am tired lmaooooo. Those are the reasons why you should watch Netflix's Castlevania. Watch it and see your skin clear, your crops flourish, and your life all spiced up. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
