I'd like to spend a moment highlighting some of my favorite books by trans people. Here's a thread of the books you should read, buy and share:
@GwenBenaway's books are incredible works of poetry that always resonate deeply with me. Her latest, Day/Break, is a must-read for any trans women / transfem (and everyone else!) about transmisogny and violence in our lives, and the realities, joys and difficulties of love.
@razorfemme's Fierce Femmes & Notorious Liars will ALWAYS be top of my list - 1st book I read after I came out. It's a badass coming of age story that breaks from the sad-trans-trope by giving us a story about trans girl gangs beating up shitty cis men. https://metonymypress.com/product/fierce-femmes-notorious-liars-dangerous-trans-girls-confabulous-memoir/
@vivekshraya's "I'm Afraid of Men" is an all-too-honest look at the violence we face from men, and the violence enforced masculinity enacts upon us. https://vivekshraya.com/projects/writing/im-afraid-of-men/
Susan Stryker's Transgender History continues to be one of the most cited books in my social work studies, and does a phenomenal job exploring the convoluted and often overlooked histories of trans folks in North America and Europe. https://www.sealpress.com/titles/susan-stryker/transgender-history-second-edition/9781580056908/
Trans Partner Handbook by Jo Green is an exceptional guide for partners, parents and friends of trans folks that is honest, useful and practical: https://www.chapters.indigo.ca/en-ca/books/the-trans-partner-handbook-a/9781785922275-item.html
Disintergate/Dissociate by @ArielleTwist is a phenomenal poetry collection exploring rage, trauma, tenderness, sex and sexuality. https://arsenalpulp.com/Books/D/Disintegrate-Dissociate
Trans Teen Survival Guide is a neccesary read for trans teens doing everything they can to survive a violent world, by @UglaStefania & @theFoxFisher: https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/39726471-trans-teen-survival-guide
And of course I can't forget TRANNY by Laura Jane Grace because well, it's phenomenal and it's by her: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/29467305-tranny
Meanwhile, Elsewhere, by @caseyplett and Cat Fitzgerald was one of my favorites because we ALL know we need more fantasy trans stories to escape from this icky transphobic reality. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/34750876-meanwhile-elsewhere
Nerve-Endings by @Tobitastic is the first trans erotic I ever read and is one of the best pieces of work for trans women and trans folks in general exploring their sexuality in a world that pathologizes and hypersexualizes us. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/34322584-nerve-endings
There are SO MANY other incredible books by trans authors. Which are your favorites? Who should we be reading?
I think my favorite of 2019 reads was @GwenBenaway’s Mother, Maiden, Crone. Some of the BEST fantasy short stories I’ve ever read and a book I always come back to https://www.chapters.indigo.ca/en-ca/books/maiden-mother-crone-fantastical-trans/9781988715216-item.html
Let’s not forget @ivancoyote’s many incredible pieces of writing! My old roommate owns ever single one (except for the one I ~accidentally~ took with me when I moved
): http://www.ivancoyote.com/

Hello, Cruel World by @katebornstein is a great guide for keeping yourself alive when you’re not sure you want to be: http://katebornstein.com/
Me, Myself, They is a wonderful memoir by Luna Ferguson! Who’s I love because we organized a rally for C-16 together back when I was a babytrans! https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/40645112-me-myself-they
99% Chance of Magic, from HeartSpark Press, is a phenomenal collection of stories of strength and hope for trans kids

. @grease_bat liked this thread and reminded me of their book, A Quick and Easy Guide to They/Them Pronouns! Sold it to a bunch of very kind but quite confused parents when I worked at a bookshop
