joining the discourse bc i feel compelled...

i think saying “stop buying fast fashion” is just not productive at all. that’s not identifying a problem or presenting a solution. like ok the environment but a lot of y’all forget to think about human beings in your “activism”+
the reason fast fashion prevails is bc it’s CHEAP. not everyone can afford to shop at ethical/sustainable stores online. and i don’t know of any e/s walk-in stores besides thrift stores. i think we’ve moved past the need for vague blanket statements. let’s actually talk+
WHAT is the problem w fast fashion? what are it’s effects on the environment? what are the ethical consequences? what would it look like for everyone to shop ethically and sustainably? what would it take? what are the alternatives.
i just would like to try to steer the conversation in a more productive direction bc we’ve been saying the same one-line sentence for years now and it feels like we’re screaming at a wall. just talking but not saying anything. we need to present something more+
substantial than “no more fast fashion!!!!!!” if we ever expect to move forward.
