I'm working on postdoc fellowship apps and one of the things that's absolutely crippling me is this:

What if - big, BIG, IF - I get a postdoc fellowship to do research I want to do and then absolutely fail at my proposed research?

Oh for context, I'm a theoretical/computational physical/complexity scientist, so my worry is more about oh-how-will-i figure-out-how-to-solve-or-stimulate-this-system, rather than getting negative results.
