Observations at this point in primary care
- Not using video consultations as much as initially thought
- “Call centre” style general practice isn’t something I’d have chosen as a speciality, but more use of phone has a place
- missing F2F contact more than I thought I would
- cases getting more complex
- loving the more pragmatic approach and kicking down of barriers to achieve it
- ability to text patients (information, signposting, summarising, clarification) a real boon
- I’ll miss scrubs
- cancellation of this year’s appraisal will, I suspect, have no bearing on my ability to perform my duties, but has removed a source of pressure that eats into free time
- initial (well meaning) email surge now more focused and manageable
- lots to learn and exciting times ahead for general practice. If we can incorporate the best of the past few weeks and recognise the best of what was in the past, we will transform primary care.
I’m optimistic.
