Africa has few navigable rivers, few good locations for ports, weak agricultural soils, numerous agricultural pests and tropical diseases.

It was destined to be poor. And it is poor.

If Africans do "nothing", it will still be poor in 100 years time.
The "Africa is rich" narrative has to die. What really matters is logistics - moving things from point A to B. Africa doesn't have that.

Try moving stuff from Lagos to Kano.

(In the US an equivalent distance can be covered easily, by barge due to the Mississippi river system).
The Rhine links Basel, Switzerland with Rotterdam, Netherlands - and the North Sea.

To move stuff efficiently between Rwanda and the outside world, you have to build >1,000km of rail - where will the capital to build that come from?
