I think the worst lesson I ever absorbed from Action Button is that variety in games is Actually Bad, that every cutscene or brief puzzle beat or navigation-focused section in RE4 or Devil May Cry or what not represented a deviation from the hypothetical ideal play experience
"I'd love to play a version of Souls that's just an infinitely long hallway full of enemies to fight" WHAT PLANET ARE YOU FROM
I like score attack games but I also like level design, I don't play Gunstar Heroes and mourn that the whole game isn't just the Destroy Them All level forever
